Yukon Territory – Bison

Yukon Territory – Bison

2-11-yukon-buffalo-2_smThis Novembers Featured Photo is captured from a Yukon Territory bison herd where on numerous trips we always see herds of bison. These historic huge bison withstand the brutal Yukon winters as they are perfectly created by Almighty God.  We’ve had the pleasure and joy to travel by them. On one occasion a herd was standing in the middle of the Alcan Hwy when we drove by a huge bull! It was the only wild animal our lab Rocket ever barked.

Cows nurse their calves for at least 7 or 8 months, but most calves seem to be weaned before the end of their first year. At three years of age, bison cows are mature enough to produce a calf. Bison have a life expectancy around 15 years in the wild and up to 25 years in captivity. So, it’s great to know they’re still thriving!!! I would love to hear any comments you may have about this photo. I hope you have a great November.
