Willow Ptarmigan

Willow Ptarmigan

It was a pleasure to have the opportunity to photograph the Alaska State bird, the Willow Ptarmigan (lagopus). In 1955 when Alaska was drafting its constitution for statehood,  Alaska school children chose the Willow Ptarmigan as the symbol of this great land. During a weekend in Denali Park joined by my wonderful and beautiful wife and daughter,  I was able to capture a few shots of this much overlooked Ptarmigan.  Golden brown in summer and white feathers in the winter.  I’d love to hear your comments about this photo.
